Lacunae in the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Initiative

  • Reality Events for Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Initiatives: Despite its lofty and noble ideals, the BBBP initiative demonstrates various loopholes that hinder its ability to function hlly:
  • Budget Ineffective: Most reports indicate that most of these fund budgets go to awareness campaigns instead of real ground work, implementation, or grassroots intervention.
  • Ineffective Implementation: The absence of proper monitoring and evaluation mechanisms results in an imbalanced progress of states for some states reap more benefits than others.
  • Grassroot Level Awareness is Very Low: Awareness is very little among the rural or marginalized communities, so neither of the two major issues infanticide of girls and education would take place.
  • Skewed Focus: The program is heavily weighted in favor of awareness campaigns with little real action to improving school infrastructure and access to quality education and health facilities for girls.
  • Cultural and Social Impediments: It continued to hold mindsets hostage to resisted change through strong patriarchal tenets and deeper gender concerns, making this initiative less successful in changing mindsets.
  • Poor Coordination: Weak intra-departmental coordination of other government departments and stakeholders deprives the initiative of its holistic approach and integrated implementation.
  • Putting an end to these gaps will be significant to improve the functionality of BBAB in realizing the objective of empowering girls and overall gender equality.
