  • Shaheed Bhagat Singh Jayanti is celebrated on 28 September every year. 

About Bhagat Singh

  • Early Life and Patriotism: Born on 27th September 1907 in Lyallpur, Bhagat Singh was deeply influenced by his family’s patriotism, particularly his uncle Ajit Singh, and was inspired by the Ghadar Movement and Kartar Singh Sarabha’s execution.
  • Education and Nationalism: Bhagat Singh studied at Dayanand Anglo-Vedic School and later National College in Lahore, rejecting government-aided schools and resisting his family’s plans for his marriage, declaring his “bride” would be death for India’s freedom.
  • Associations : As a member of the Hindustan Republican Association, Bhagat Singh was relentless in his pursuit of freedom
    • Naujawan Bharat Sabha: In March 1926, Bhagat Singh became the secretary of the Naujawan Bharat Sabha, a revolutionary organization.
  • Legislative Assembly Bombing: Bhagat Singh threw a bomb in the Central Legislative Assembly on 8th April 1929 to protest two oppressive Bills. This action, along with a poster explaining Saunders’ murder, led to Bhagat Singh’s arrest.
  • Lahore Conspiracy Case and Execution: On 23rd March 1931, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev were hanged after being sentenced to death in the Lahore Conspiracy Case, following a trial where they were denied the right to appeal.
  • Post-Execution: After his execution, Bhagat Singh’s body was secretly cremated by the British at Husainiwala, but his comrades retrieved his remains and held a procession in Lahore.
  • Title of Shahid-e-Azam: Bhagat Singh is honored with the title “Shahid-e-Azam,” meaning the greatest of martyrs.
  • Martyrdom and Legacy: Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev embraced death without fear, chanting “Inquilab Zindabad” before being hanged. The song “Mera Rang De Basanti Chola” became iconic as Bhagat Singh’s song of sacrifice.

Jivitputrika Festival

Context

  • Around 46 people, including 37 children, drowned while taking holy dip in rivers and ponds in several districts of Bihar during the ‘Jivitputrika’ festival.

About

  • Jivitputrika Vrat (Jitiya Vrat), is a significant festival dedicated to the well-being and prosperity of children, observed primarily by mothers.
    • It involves women fasting and taking a holy dip.
  • Region: It is celebrated in several states across India, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand, as well as Nepal.
  • Duration: This festival spans three days, taking place during the seventh to ninth lunar day of Krishna-Paksha in the month of Ashvin.
  • The celebration begins with Nahai-Khai, where mothers take a purifying bath and eat a nourishing meal.
    • The second day is marked by the rigorous fasting ritual, and the festival concludes on the third day with Paaran, where the fast is broken with a meal.

India Elected to GlobE Steering Committee

Context

  • India has been elected to the GlobE Network’s steering committee in Beijing, gaining a pivotal role in shaping global anti-corruption efforts.

About

  • Background: The Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities (GloBE Network) was an initiative of G-20.
    • It was officially launched on June 3, 2021, during a special event at the UN General Assembly Special Session against Corruption. 
  • Member: It now has 121 member countries and 219 member authorities.
  • Objective: The GloBE Network is a platform where agencies from across the world share criminal intelligence, develop strategies, and support in the common cause of combating corruption. 
  • Governance: The Network has one chair, one vice-chair and 13 members in the Steering Committee for providing leadership to the organization.

Indian representation

  • The Ministry of Home Affairs is the central authority for GloBE Network, while the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate are its member authorities from India.
  • During India’s G-20 Presidency in 2023, two high-level principles for combating corruption were adopted which detailed leveraging of the GloBE Network.

  • The Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) presented detailed action plans for 6G technology development during a high-level meeting in Bengaluru.

About Bharat 6G Alliance

  • The Bharat 6G Alliance is a collaborative platform bringing together academia, industry, and government to build a comprehensive 6G ecosystem in India. 
  • The Alliance focuses on research, development, and standardization of 6G technology, with the goal of making India a global leader in the emerging 6G landscape.

Bharat 6G Vision”

  • In 2023, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi unveiled India’s “Bharat 6G Vision,” aiming for the country to take a leading role in the design, development, and implementation of 6G technology by 2030.
  • The Bharat 6G Vision is built on three core principles: affordability, sustainability, and ubiquity.
  •  It seeks to position India as a global leader in delivering innovative and cost-effective telecom solutions that benefit society.
