- Recently, The Ministry of Textiles cleared 20 strategic research projects worth INR 30 crores in the areas of Specialty fibres and Geotextiles under the Flagship Programme ‘National Technical Textiles Mission.’
About ‘National Technical Textiles Mission.’
- It was launched by the Ministry of Textiles.
- Period: 4 years (2020-21 to 2023-24)
- Outlay: Rs. 1480 crores.
- The aim of the mission is to position India as a global leader in Technical Textiles.
- The Mission has a target to take the domestic market size of the technical textile sector to $ 40-50 Bn by the year 2024 with an average growth rate of 15-20% per annum.
- It also supports the ‘Make in India’ initiative promoting domestic manufacturing of related machinery and equipment.
- The mission will comprise of the following four components:
- Research, Innovation and Development
- Promotion and Market Development
- Export Promotion
- Education, Training, Skill Development
- Focus: Developing the usage of technical textiles in various flagship missions, programmes of the country including strategic sectors.
- This will reduce India’s import dependence and promote the domestic manufacturing of capital goods in the sector.
