  • The Transport Ministry recently said that the InvIT Bonds are offering a high effective return of 8.05% per annum. 

What is NHAI’s InvIT?

  • NHAI InvIT is the infrastructure investment trust sponsored by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to support the government’s National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP).
    • It is a Trust established by NHAI under the Indian Trusts Act, 1882 and SEBI (Security and Exchange Board of India) regulations.
  • While the investment manager is entrusted with the task of supervising the assets and investments of the InvIT, the project manager is responsible for the execution of the project.

What are InvITs?

  • Infrastructure investment trusts are institutions similar to mutual funds, which pool investments from various categories of investors and invest them into completed and revenue-generating infrastructure projects, thereby creating returns for the investor. 

Significance

  • These InvIT bonds will be listed on BSE and NSE, providing an opportunity for investors to invest and trade.

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)

  • It was constituted by an Act of Parliament in 1988 under the administrative control of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
  • NHAI has been set up as a Central Authority to develop, maintain and manage the National Highways entrusted to it by the Government of India.
  • The Authority consists of a full time Chairman, and not more than five full time Members and four part time Members who are appointed by the Central Government.
