  • Recently, the PM of India inaugurated over ?920 crore Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor Project. 

About Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor project

  • It comprises a 1.3-km-long tunnel and five underpasses and was built over four years.
  • The tunnel is equipped with the latest technologies such as a digital control room with the facility of a public announcement system. 
  • The tunnel also has seven underground sumps which will collect and drain storm water automatically and prevent water logging.
  • Additionally, arrangements have been made for proper ventilation in the tunnel.
  • Specially designed German-made large exhaust fans have been installed for ventilation purposes.
  • The road tunnel and underpasses have been decorated with artwork showcasing the Indian culture, birds and six seasons in different parts of the country from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.

Significance 

  • It will ensure hassle-free vehicular movement, helping save time and cost of commuters in a big way.
  • It will provide smooth access to the new world-class exhibition and convention centre being developed at Pragati Maidan to facilitate easy participation of exhibitors and visitors in the programmes being held there.
