  • Recently, the 2022 International Booker Prize was won by ‘Tomb of Sand’, written by Geetanjali Shree and translated by Daisy Rockwell. It was published by Tilted Axis Press.

  • It is the first book in any Indian language to win the prestigious International Booker Prize. 
  • ‘Tomb of Sand’, originally ‘Ret Samadhi’ was translated by Daisy Rockwell. The novel is based on a boundary-crossing 80-year-old heroine.

About International Man Booker Prize

  • It is awarded annually for the finest single work of fiction from around the world which has been translated into English and published in the UK and Ireland.
  • The International Booker Prize began life in 2005 as the Man Booker International Prize.
  • The prize celebrates the vital work of translators, with the prize money divided equally between the author and the translator. 
  • This prize aims to encourage more reading of quality fiction from all over the world, and has already had an impact on those statistics in the UK
