    • The Republic of Somalia was formed in 1960 by the federation of a former Italian colony and a British protectorate.
  • Location:
    • It is the easternmost country of Africa, on the Horn of Africa.
  • Somalia’s capital and largest city:
    • It is Mogadishu located just north of the Equator on the Indian Ocean.
  • Sharing Borders:
    • Somalia is bordering the Gulf of Aden in the north, Djibouti in the North West, Ethiopia in west and Kenya in south west, in east it borders the Indian Ocean, and it shares maritime borders with Yemen.

    • Spoken languages are Somali and Arabic (both official).

    • Somalia is a country of geographic extremes. It lies astride the Equator.
    • The climate is mainly dry and hot, with landscapes of thornbush savanna and semidesert.

    • Civil war, clannist coups, border disputes and clannist autonomous regions are common here.
